Salvador Dalí’s surreal and erotic cookbook will be rereleased by Taschen in time for Christmas 2016. Dalí is better known for melting clocks than butter, but Les Diners de Gala is expected to be a festive bestseller.

The surrealist painter wrote and illustrated the bizarre cookbook at the age of 69, first published in 1973. Taschen have reprinted the book with the rerelease date set for November. The book features 136 recipes over 12 chapters and is illustrated by Dalí with ostentatious and exotic designs.

Dalí writes in the opening to the book, “Les diners de Gala is uniquely devoted to the pleasures of taste… If you are a disciple of one of those calorie-counters who turn the joys of eating into a form of punishment, close this book at once; it is too lively, too aggressive, and far too impertinent for you.”

Dalí was famous for his legendary dinner parties in Paris and all the recipes here can be recreated at home. However, the ingredients list will have many dashing for exotic market stalls, searching for frogs legs, snails, toffee and pine cones. The entire 10th chapter is dedicated to aphrodisiacs.

The entire book is rendered with a loopy surrealism gastronomically, aesthetically and philosophically. Recipes include ‘1000 Year Old Eggs’, ‘Crayfish Consommé’, and ‘Conger Eel of the Rising Sun.’

You can preorder the gluttonous cookbook here.
