In Back to Nature, artist Fesson Ludovic produces incredible sculptures that have the appearance of simplicity, but are actually quite complex. Each piece features basic lines, arcs and geometric forms that are buried directly on land or placed in water. The artist relies on nature to intervene with each piece -the sun shining down or the water reflecting upward- to produce the completed, symmetrical forms. Made with grass, branches, and wood, the site-specific abstractions perfectly blend into the familiar, natural environments. For presentation, the artist turns the compositions sideways and upside down so that viewers will focus on the shapes rather than just the constructions. At first glance, it’s easy to assume a basic understanding of each sculpture. However, upon further inspection at multiple angles, viewers will discover an intense depth to each piece that constantly reveals a new perspective.
