Clubs, as a meaning, is not quite popular in Greece. Fortunately, though, there are plenty American movies, that have presented all sorts of clubs, even the weirdest ones. Ursula Sprecher and Andi Cortellini present the Hobby Buddies Series, a collection of club photos, ranging from the simplest and most common, like the Knitting Group, to a club dedicated to the 501st Legion of the Star Wars movies, or the Tupperware Party, which seems to have some connection with the well-known company’s products.

Their staged photos present 60 clubs, either holding their subject of interest or their action field. The lighting brings to mind older ages, and their humorous vibe of the two photographers against their subject, are like Wes Anderson’s approach to his Royal Tenenbaums’ portraits of the so-called movie (2001). Among the less ordinary, there is the Tram Club, the Santa Claus Club and the Vintage Aircraft Club, which alongside the most conventional, like the Children’s Chess Club, Naked Projects and the Astronomical Association present a wide range of the numerous interests, one may have.

Eventually, a club’s goal is not only spending our time with people with the same interests or not feeling so alone, but be ourselves.
