Videorative Portrait by Sergio Albiac

Text by Maria

The videorative portrait is a new kind of digital painting developed by Sergio Albiac. The artist wanted to create a more realistic portrait of a modern-based character and the psychology of the individual. It begins with the collection of personal videos depicting the face. Then, using a custom tool, the artist “paints with meanings” and creates a video-portrait, with personal narratives.

What is a truly realistic portrait? This question has inspired the artist and he tries to create the inner world of a man, through the memories, emotions, relationships and personal history. This “data visualization” create new and unexpected interpretations of the portrait. The videorative portraits are the result of experiments to create a more realistic, contemporary portrait. It is a commentary on the art of portrait painting. It is an optical transfer of memory, having been distorted.
