Dancing Sculptures in La Parade Installation by Laurent Craste and Dpt.

These vases, part of the interactive installation La Parade, are not that common. They can dance with the help of an industrial flashlight and of visitors of the Chromatic festival in Montreal, Canada. Laurent Craste collaborates with creative agency Dpt. and his misshaped all-white ceramics of the former, are turned into animated figures.

The installation is situated inside a white wooden box, where a white night bed table is also used to put the vases on. Visitors are supposed to move the flashlight and watch the two vases dance.

Their creators say that “La Parade is a work that highlights itself thanks to its simplicity and its magic side”. The projection however has nothing to do with the flashlight. The animated shadows are a result of a hidden projector in the backside of the box, which can recognize the flashlight’s movements.

The Chromatic festival offers the chance to Montreal-based artists to present their works. This year, it lasted from May 27th up to May 29th, and it hosted 11 works of art, covering a big range of disciplines.
