“Send your friend a message…a stranger will deliver it verbally! Or you can deliver someone else’s message!” This is how artist, actress and writer Miranda July‘s application, Somebody, is introducing itself via its website. It actually is a public art project-critics on personal relationships and how technology can affect them.

To accompany its launch, a 10-minute long video was presented during the Venice Film Festival, before So Yong Kim’s Spark and Light film. Another interesting info about the video is that it is part of Miu Miu‘s Women’s Tales series. For the video, whose cinematographer is Sebastian Wintero, the American artist used clothes of the famous brand and talks about the tenderness of modern relationships, presenting at the same time the function of her app.

“Half-app / half-human, Somebody is a far-reaching public art project that incites performance and twists our love of avatars and outsourcing — every relationship becomes a three-way. The antithesis of the utilitarian efficiency that tech promises, here, finally, is an app that makes us nervous, giddy, and alert to the people around us”.
