His collaborations with Kanye West and Louis Vuitton might have helped Japanese artist Takashi Murakami get widely known, but he is mostly recognized for his unique work. The contemporary artist is now making a powerful comeback at the art scene, with a major exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery in New York. The exhibition which goes by the title “In the Land of the Dead, Stepping on the Tail of a Rainbow”, receives a more dark turn out from what the artist is usually accustomed to, since he’s inspired by historic natural disasters (such as the nuclear explosion at Fukushima in 2011) and it’s constituted by sculptures and paintings. Combining new and old techniques at the construction of his pieces, they feature elements from religious symbols, imagery from manga comics, science fiction and self-portraits.

The opening of the exhibition “In the Land of the Dead, Stepping on the Tail of a Raιnbow” was held last week, while it will run until Januray 17th 2015.
