Halcyon Selects: Simian Mobile Disco – Cerulean

Celebrating the 126th birth anniversary of German-born American architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, a pioneering master of Modern architecture and minimalism, today’s music proposal is going to obey his famous aphorism “less is more”. Top favourite London-based duo Simian Mobile Disco, are about to release a third studio album titled “Unpatterns” on May 14 via Wichita Recordings. After the first single “Seraphim” a couple of weeks ago, yesterday we had a second taste of the much anticipating forthcoming album through the release of a second single titled “Cerulean”, which was also selected to be visualised by their well-known collaborators Jack Featherstone and Will Samuel of ISO Studio. The minimalistic beats of the song and the analong syth sounds is a perfect match to the video’s retro 8-bit Atari video game styling, which also takes cues from cubist art and the De Stijl movement.
