The metal building at Vassilissis Sofias Avenue was not a random choice, as it was closely related to the concept of the ‘Impossible’; It created the ideal scenery and atmosphere for the event, proving that nothing is infeasible. Arrival time: 20.30. The guests arrive early at the building. Soon, the foyer is flocked by people sipping beloved tea flavors at the welcoming Lipton tea party.

After the reception they make their way down to the fashion show venue. The lights dim and the introductory video curated by video artist Maria Antelman is on: the video was a series of archives that NASA granted Antelman during her creative research on space exploration, put together. It’s a “fictional” first landing of the man on the moon, in case the transmission of the real one wouldn’t work out. Afterwards, the atmospheric video by Digitaria label follows suit, where enigmatic figures present the new collection of the brand.

Right then the fashion show begins. The catwalk is now occupied by models, who wear the creations of the up-and-coming Canadian designer, Steven Tai, who has recently won the famous Chloé design prize, at Hyères International Festival of Fashion and Photography.

His S/S ’13 collection uniquely combined Tai’s love for books with an urban aspect. His “nerdy” aesthetic is expressed through high-wasted pants, jackets and typical round glasses, while classic shirts are enriched with pleats and sharp cuts, making it look like stacking up pages of magazines or books. Besides, “the craft of book binding reminds me of the craft of clothes making”, he says.

The fashion show was ideally accompanied with the sounds of “ARTéfacts ensemble”, a music ensemble, whose members hold significant positions in some of the most prominent Greek orchestras and they experiment with contemporary music, aiming to familiarize the public with their wide perspective on music and its performance. During 4fashionshake they performed Steve Reich’s “Music for Pieces of Wood”.

Afterwards, it was time for the Spanish designer Carlos Diez Diez to present his collection entitled ‘Mantra’. Flowy lines, dreamy whitewashed human forms appear on the catwalk under the sounds of a song performed by the talented mezzo soprano Anna Pangalou who chose to perform John Cage’s No. 84 Songbook.
