Greek born designer Mary Katrantzou was named the winner of this year’s Swiss Textile Awards. After attending the Rhode Island School of Design and graduating with a BA, and later an MA with distinction from Central Saint Martins in London in 2008, Mary has presented collections that never stopped impressing and ‘deceiving’ fashion’s eye. Her trompe l’ oiel designs show her artistry in structured forms that flatter the feminine silhouette and at the same time express attitude and symmetry. Moving from oversized jewellery featured on bonded jersey dresses, to graphic pattens, hourglass illusions and reapprochements of 18th century dresses transferred onto the body of the 21st century woman, Mary Katrantzou knows how to sway between minimalism and maximalism. Congratulations Mary!
