Where were we on Saturday night? On the rooftop of a seven storey apartment block over looking the Acropolis of course! About a hundred people gathered and danced into the night while watching the stars above the city to celebrate techno DJ EMEX’s latest release with label Modular Expansion Records.

EMEX is the stage name of George Apergis, one of the most established figures in Greek dance music and the guy behind some of the coolest parties in Athens. Apergis began playing vinyl records in 1995 and has continued on the 1’s and 2’s until today. Over the past 20 years, Apergis has gone on to perform sets internationally in Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland and Russia even making it into legendary clubs such as Trésor, Suicide Circus and Berghain. Besides DJing, Apergis began producing music in 2005 and has a number of releases under both EMEX and George Apergis.

After pioneering techno in Athens, he began his club night Modular Expansion in 1998 and hasn’t looked back since. The club night spawned the label, Modular Expansion Records, in 2012 and has continued to expand, growing to represent over 30 artists from across Europe.

ZEX comes after a very successful year for the label, having celebrated their 20th anniversary with parties in both Athens and Berlin. Now Apergis is 44 years old and shows no signs of slowing down. The vinyl includes two previously unrealised tracks from EMEX: ‘Function Mode’, a bass filled track with a relentless pulsing kick and shrill minimal synth-lines inspired by acid house and ‘Electrical Highway’, which incorporates “trippy arpeggios” on top of a raw, punchy bass-line. On the b-side, EMEX remixes a George Apergis hit, “Ekhowax”, into a perfect club edit with Chicago House influences.

Keep you eyes peeled for future events as Apergis tells us there will be two events coming up in Autumn with big names to be announced!
