Killer Noises: Retro/Grade

RETROGRADE

The basic idea behind the Retro-Grade project is a simple one: reviving Italo Disco and tailoring it to make sense in 2009. Aside from being massive fans of Gino Soccio and Ken Laszlo, Serge Santiago and Tom Neville are two of the best producers around, an attribute that sets them in a class above the rest of their peers from this decade’s disco- revival. Borrowing some of the best Italo loops of all time they string together tracks that can fit into the sets of a wide range of DJs. Moda (borrowed from Amin Peck’s ‘Coda’) is one of this year’s biggest hits and has been championed by DJs that range from Disco Bloodbath and Erol Alkan to Α-Trak and the progressive crew. Their new LP as well as a brand new 12” entitled “Zoid”, a cover of the classic ‘Droid’ by Automat, are both highly anticipated and have already seen hype on Twitter and various blogs.
