zhang-ning06

Chinese Zhang Ning is trying to capture the colorful and stunning landscape of her country in her photographic series. The photos show the rice terraces of the southwestern provinces of Yunnan, Guangxi and Guizhou and were taken during the trips of the 51-year-old photographer.

The photographer aims not only to show the beauty of these fields but also to send a message about the harsh conditions and difficulties the farmers come across in order to shape the land.

The Hani rice terraces are located in the mountains above Yuanyang and are often described as “a stairway to Heaven” because of the vast layers of land that have been created by the people’s efforts. They and reach up to 2000 meters above the sea. The beauty of the Hani rice terraces has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage site.
