“Beautiful Creatures”: Surrealistic photography as a means to judge hyper-consumption

petrina-hicks-22

The Australian based photographer Petrina Hick tries to appeal to our senses with her project, called Beautiful Creatures. Through larger-scale, hyper real photographs which remind us of advertisement photos the artist makes a statement against consumption. In all of her photos there are elements which may bother the viewer, or mess with the beautiful characteristics of the image.  Petrina Hick  has been given  a great number of  awards and has exhibited her work widely through both solo and groups shows in Australia, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, USA, UK, Japan, China, Mexico and Brazil. Recently, her work was selected for the 17th International Videobrasil in Brazil and the Pingyao International Photography Festival in China.
