A History Of Indoors Skateboarding In NYC

Red Bull have produced a mini-documentary charting the rise of indoor skateparks, especially DIY ones, in New York City. Due to the long and cold winters -plus the snow and subsequent “ice melt” chemicals that cause the cracked and rough ground in the Big Apple- many of the city’s skateboarders had no choice but to build their own indoor spots. As pro Zared Bassett says in the video, if you want to have a chance of being able to compete with the Californian skateboarders at competitions, you really need to be practicing all year round.
