Top-20 Movie Villains: Pt.1

The other night I was watching “Kill Bill” and I was thinking what an awesome villain Elle Driver made! And yet, she is not the best. Look at her though, walking and whistling. Perfect, right?

The thing is we made a list with the top villains, the most cruel ones, the most heartless, the most ruthless. Here are the 20 best villains, as chosen by the OZON team:

#2o. Bill “The Butcher” Cutting, “Gangs of New York”
For his role as Civil War-era crime boss in New York City in this Martin Scorsese movie, Daniel Day-Lewis received a Best Actor Oscar nomination.

#19. Tommy DeVito, “Goodfellas”
Remember the three words we used to describe the best villains before? Joe Pesci, aka Tommy DeVito is the devil in person in “Goodfellas”
and he represents all three of them.
“I’m funny, how? I mean, funny, like I’m a clown?”

#18. Nurse Ratched, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”
It was almost impossible not to hate Anne Fletcher when she was actually torturing all the inmates of an Oregon mental facility, as the cold, tyrannical head nurse.

#17. Buffalo Bill, “The Silence of the Lambs”
Had not it been for Hannibal Lecter, Buffalo Bill would have been the villain #1 of the award-winning movie of 1991. He was actually the bad guy in the movie, the one Clarice (Jodie Foster) was after. And he was pretty nuts. But then there was Hannibal Lecter in the movie, so Ted Levine came second.

#16. Ivan Drago, “Rocky IV”
Not a big fan of boxing movies, but having watched the “Rocky” series is a must. And I was pretty shocked, like most of the movie’s audience, to watch Ivan Drago kill Apollo Creed and then just say, “If he dies, he dies”. Besides, he had already warned “I must break you”.

#15. Joan Crawford, “Mommie Dearest”
We don’t know if Joan Crawford was so abusive with her adopted daughter, Christina Crawford, as the film, withh Faye Danaway in the leading role, suggests. But if things were as described in both the book and the 1981 movie, oh my god!

#14. The Joker, “Batman”
Long before Heath Ledger, or even Jared Leto, Jack Nicholson was THE Joker. After being exposed to chemicals, Jack Napier -his pro-Joker era name- became Batman’s first, and greatest foe.
“Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?”

#13.  Alex DeLarge, “A Clockwork Orange”
“Singin’ in the Rain” while brutalizing a female victim is the thing that made Alex DeLarge one of the most horrifying villains. It’s not OK doing so, but it’s even worse when you are so happy doing it.

#12. Michael Myers, “Haloween”
And there is something worse than someone who combines horror with his own happiness. Not being able to run away from them, because no matter what they will alaways catch you. Like Michael Myers, in “Haloween”, who walks at a casual pace, but still he does not miss a single victim.

#11. Hans Gruber, “Die Hard”
Well, Alan Rickman. Enough said. He was not just Professor Snape. He was Hans Gruber, too. Two villains, one actor. Maybe it’s the voice. Besides the talent.
