Sharif-ha House by Nextoffice

The Sharifi-ha House is a Tehran residence, designed by Next Office studio. Architect Alireza Taghaboni’s goal was to create a building that can easily adjust to constantly changing weather conditions of the Iranian capital. And the way he chose to accomplish it is rather impressive -one could say it is too complicated.

Its main facade compises of three boxes that can be mechanically 90 degree-revolved. It could be seen as a synchronous interpretation of the traditional Iranian residence, that used to have two living rooms, one during winter and another during summer.

The Iranian architect has also accentuated the significantly narrow facade of the building, compared to its depth, an existing problem of current architectural design in the urban landscape. Its 2-dimensional facade, gains one more and becomes automatically, more interesting. The revolving mechanism is designed by German company Bumat and relies on the counterpart ones, used for theaters and car exhibitions.

Could it be too much for nothing or another step towards the integration of new elements and technologies in small scale architecture?
