Tour Eiffel, 1900

Julien Knez inserts old into new photos of Paris, he plays with angles and impresses with a collage that “writes” history.

In his book, “Paris, Fenêtres sur l’Histoire”, Julien Knez opens a window from Paris of today to Paris of the past, using the technique of “picture inside a picture”. More specifically, he found old photos of Paris, taken between 1871 and 1968, he visited the same sites of Paris and photographed them, after having inserted the old photo in the new one, like a puzzle piece. Thus, the past comes alive, in line with the present, and confirms what we all already know: whichever way we “see” it, Paris remains one of the most beautiful historical capitals in Europe.
