Book Project By Cara Berer

The last seven years, photographer and artist Cara Berer approaches the art of the book in a quite special way. Her primary inspiration was a random encounter with an old phone book. After that she began the search for more books such as old pages of discarded catalogs, outdated dictionaries, dated instruction manuals and rejected telephone books, transforming them into marvelous works of art. The books’ size, the type of paper and sometimes the contents guide her work.

The Cara Berer book project symbolizes the overload of information in our lives and offers a way to preserve the printed word on paper in time raising questions about the future of books and the ephemeral and fragile nature in which we now obtain knowledge. The artist made clear that no important books were “injured” for this project.
