Based in New Zealand photographer Henry Hargreaves collaborated with artist Caitlin Levin in order to create imaginary and delicious project, “Food Maps”. As revealed by its name, the project includes map pictures of countries and continents completely created from the typical and iconic food of each place. For example, Italy is created with tomatoes, India with various spices, Australia with shrimp while America is shaped of corn and wheat. Each map is made of real food that has been carefully assembled by hand. Inspiration for this project has been the creators’s common love for traveling.
Hargreaves states about the art work: “These maps show how food has traveled the globe – transforming and becoming a part of the cultural identity of that place.”
