Amandine van Ray manipulates the realm of reality and creates through digital editing techniques pictures that resemble science fiction scenes. The Estonian artist uses parts of other photographs in order to compose this new world. Each picture is eerie and unnatural but at the same time intensely expressive conveying feelings of isolation and loneliness.
Foggy skies, absurdly oversized fish that float in the air and light bulbs that are transformed into natural extensions of the landscape are some of the elements that are usually featured in Van Ray’s photos. Every time she post a new art work on her personal website she also posted the links of the original photographs that have been used. This way the artist introduces the viewers into the complicated yet impressive process of these creations.
