Intended to transform the architecture’s character of Mies van der Rohe’s infamously known Neue Nationalgallerie the team around Udo Kittelmann now displays a room filling installation by Rudolf Stingel, entitled Live.
A nineteenth century inspired Indian carpet in modulations of black, white and gray that resembles a badly printed jpeg embraces the whole room and is highlighted by an opulent chandelier hanging off the ceiling, giving the otherwise simple van der Rohe’s modern temple an oriental reinterpretation. In the basement, four black and white wide formatted oil paintings map the view upon the mountains of Meran and Davos – the native country of the 1956 born artist Stingel.
