As one of the first and most known toys, paper dolls have the same age as paper. These figures are followed by separate clothes and accessories, also made of paper, that are usually held onto the dolls by folding tabs.
This was a favorite toy back in the 18th century and has appeared in advertisments, magazines and newspapers but these dolls have also been used as artwork due to the detailed work they require. Since nowadays they have been replaced by other toys and purchase possibility is limited, paper dolls have disappeared and as a result they are unknown to recent generations.
While trying to bring again the paper doll under the spotlight, Francisco Estebanez created a book entitled Frida Kahlo Paper Dolls. The book includes 30 outfits affected by the Mexican culture. This innovative idea is later followed by other releases with artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Salvador Dali and Vincent Van Gogh. It is worth mentioning that Van Gogh comes with a detachable ear.
