Blondie lead guitarist, Chris Stein offers an inside view of the New York punk music scene during the 70s and 80s, thanks to the Chris Stein/Negative: Me, Blondie, and the Advent of Punk. The New York’s School of Visual Arts graduate photographed his friends, Joey Ramone, Iggy Pop, Joan Jett and -of course- Debbie Harry back then and on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Blondie, he is presenting his archive of the times, when the Ramones, the Television, the music club CBGB and the Andy Warhol’s Factory would reign.
Stein became a regular of the 70s music scene, while still a student, and that’s how Debbie Harry and he met. In 1974 they founded Blondie and they haven’t stopped touring and recording their music up to today. The photos in the book cover a big part of the pre-“Heart of Glass” Blondie era, when the band was not a commercial success yet. Faces, such as David Bowie, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Divine and much more, give an impressive perspective of the scene, in a tribute to the musical movement, that influences music and almost every art discipline up to now.
