A new talent from Johanesburg, St. Lucia (Jean-Philip Grobler) might become the next big thing of 2012. After studying at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, one of the United Kingdom’s leading universities, founded by Paul McCartney, St. Lucia recently moved to the unofficial world’s hipster capital, Williamsburg’s neighborhood of New York. There, he was soon discovered by Neon Gold Recordings, maybe the best record company of Brooklyn that specializes in 7″ records, via some of the most famous indie pop artists has released their debuts: Passion Pit, Marina and the Diamonds, Gotye, Ellie Goulding, The Sound of Arrows, Penguin Prison, The Naked and Famous and Monarchy. After a joint venture with Columbia, Neon Gold is planning to release its’ first LP choosing St. Lucia, whose as-yet untitled full-length is expected later this year. His debut UK tour is already scheduled to start on May, while the first NME article for him was published a few days ago. It all seems like St Lucia is going to get soon a lot of buzz goind around him. For now, you can watch the only music video he has released so far for his beautiful song “All Eyes On You”.
