New York City Ballet‘s new performances’ opening night is scheduled for the 23rd of September. Shortly after New York and London Fashion Weeks are over, Mary Katrantzou alongside Carolina Herrera, Valentino, Thom Browne and Alexander McQueen’s head designer, Sarah Burton, will present that night the costumes she created in collaboration with choreographer Justin Peck.
Their vibe will be in agreement with her lace-centric Resort 2014 Collection. Since “I didn’t want to go costumey”, she emphasized on dancers’ movements and physiques, and ended up creating a second skin costume. Both female and male costumes are nude and sheer. The male one is a lace bodysuit, while a tulle skirt is added to create the female outfit.
Even though she wants to play with the shoes, she is not so sure about that. She still hopes that she will be able to dye them, but “Ιt was controversial to tint the ballet shoe! You’re so used to seeing them in pink, so we’re going to color them and see how it feels when they’re dancing”.
The designer revealed some of her sketches on her website, while her Spring/Summer 2015 will be shown on Sunday.
