Valentino receives a standing ovation for his 60’s inspired couture show

Valentino closed Paris Haut Couture week with a bang: big hair, big capes and plenty of feathers. The show featured polychrome gowns which provided some much needed drama to what had been a rather dry fashion week so far. Sixteen year old Vogue It-Girl, Kaia Gerber, face of Vogue Italia and not to mention Cindy Crawford’s daughter, was one of seven models to wear a ginormous bouffon wig, paving the way for the return of big hair.

The hair was styled by master hairdresser Guido Palau and executed by Josh Wood Colour’s who explained the laborious process on his Instagram post after the show. Between the seven models, a team of 11 hairdressers used 50 wigs, travelled 3700 miles, hand dyed the wigs using 250 colour processes which took 150 hours of preparation. It must have been worth the effort as the show received a standing ovation from the audience which included celebrities such as singer Mika, actor Tracée Ellis Ross and founder of the house Valentino Garavani.

Current creative director of the house, Pierpaolo Piccioli included some allusions to Greek history with bold prints of sculptures of some of the dresses. The outfit seemed to draw influence from the Christopher Kane F/W 2015 collection with the nude figures printed onto the fabric with a black outline.Image: Cleo Glover for W Magazine
