Fashion meets technology. Designer Pauline Van Dongen in collaboration with the solar energy expert Gert Jan Jongerden and Christian Holland from the HAN University of Applied Sciences, created the first clothing collection which can utilize solar energy. The collection is called “Wearable Solar Project” and includes pieces that have embedded photovoltaic technology allowing the person who wears it to charge his phone no matter where he is.

The ingenious Van Dongen, designed the front part of a dress by placing 48 crystal panels which can be unfold to capture sunlight. Panels are embedded in such a way in order to be hidden when not needed. Depending on the amount of the light, these clothes can charge a typical smartphone up to a 50% capacity, with just an hour of direct sunlight exposure .
