Even though natural phenomena such as storms usually cause anxiety, insecurity and fear even, forcing the majority of people to stay inside in order to protect themselves against the fury of the weather, Mitch Dobrowner’s photographs show the other side of these storms, the one that causes an unrivaled awe and exudes a unique charm.
California based Mitch Dobrowner, chases and photographs storms throughout Midwestern and Western U.S.A. The photographer partnered up with the professional storm-chaser Roger Hill and shoots images that have been featured in National Geographic, TIME Magazine and many other renowned publications.
As Dobrowner states: “Words are inadequate to describe the experience of photographing this immense power and beauty. And the most exciting part is with each trip I really don’t know what to expect. But now I see these storms as living, breathing things. They are born when the conditions are right, they gain strength as they grow, they fight against their environment to stay alive, they change form as they age… and eventually they die.”
