This place used to be a seaside swimming resort in Weston-super-Mare, UK. Now it is one of the most talked places around the world. It’s Dismaland, Banksy‘s largest artistic project so far. It’s a pop-up art exhibition that will be open only for five weeks, for 4,000 visitors/day.
What you will find in “The UK’s most most disappointing new visitor attraction” is a Disney-like castle, a Little Mermaid, a weird mini-golf course, anything to be found in an amusement park, but enriched with that Banksy effect of supspicion and anticipation, anti-consumerism and provocation. But what’s really interesting is that the bulk of it is not a work of the mysterious artist -only 10 artworks of his can be found in the park-, but of 58 artists, such as Damien Hirst, Josh Keyes, Mike Ross, Espo, just to name a few. Αdd to them all members of the staff, whose behavior is a total match to the rest of the site. They bored, not helpful at all and not so happy to give the visitor any information.
Doesn’t this sound great? Well, everyone wants to visit it and tried to buy their tickets online, on Dismaland’s website, causing it to crash on August 20. At first everyone thought that it was a part of Banksy’s project, but no, it was just something that went wrong. However, everyone still wants to visit it until its final date.
Dismaland is supposed to shut its doors on September, 27.
