Even though words such as VHS, floppy disks and cassette tapes are not frequently used nowadays, Nick Gentry, a british graduate of Central St.Martins found a way to re-enter them to our reality as a form of art. He uses the floppy disks as to create human portraits. By taking a closer look, one can’t help but wonder: how are they connected to the human nature? Does technology have an impact on the progress of society? Do we take properly advantage of it or does it master us? The evolution of technology and its connection to humankind has a strong impact when it comes to Nick Gentry’s work as one tries to relate each floppy disk with the nature of the portrait and what it may be stored in it.
