The Motherland Call, Volgograd, Russia, 285 ft, built in 1967
Fabrice Fouillet’s series Colosses, captures gargantuan statues over cities, into mountainsides, in the middle of nowhere or the coutryside- featuring religious and political icons. Fouillet is not interested in the artistic or the sociological meaning of those statues, he wishes to portray how these monuments have altered their surroundings. Why would people need to errect such gigantic creations in the middle of a landscape?
