Halcyon Selects: Rye Rye – Boom Boom

Rye Rye (Ryeisha Berrain), M.I.A.‘s protege, is the new it girl of hip hop music. Despite her being only 21 years old, she already counts collaborations with many important artists such as Robyn, Crookers, Diplo and of course M.I.A., while her debut album “Go! Pop! Bang!” is due release on 15 May via Interscope Records, after a 3 years’ delay. Having worked with some big names in the industry, including her mentor M.I.A and Diplo, international music press looks forward for this release expressing some great expectations with New York Times claiming that this album is going to be the “next stop in the musical revolution”! First single out is “Boom Boom” and its music video, directed by Legs (Goldfrapp, La Roux, Florence + The Machine) was published just yesterday. 90s revival is here again, as we can listen Rye Rye not only borrowing the chorus from the Vengaboys’ same titled ’99 hit, but also paying homage to every 90s video game ever. Old school rap and Baltimore club beats feature a colorful, fun and full of energy video, giving us one of the most catchy and danceable tracks of the year so far!
