One of the most interesting releases lately is the music of Julio Bashmore from Bristol, UK. The thing that makes it so different is that it can not be categorised. He claims to write a “special blend of house, disco and dubstep” and it seems he gets it right. The beats that set the foundation of his productions are typical bassy 2-step/minimal fidget house typical for Dirtybird, the record company he signs with. The melodies, however, are based on late ’80s and ’90s classic / deep house forms. These ingredients produce a blend of sounds that stick to everywhere and yet belong nowhere in particular. The kid from Brighton is a sure bet for 2010; an interesting performance with little risk.
