While listening to any of releases bearing in their title the term ‘motor City Drum Ensemble’, it is hard to believe that they were written on this side of the atlantic. Yet Danilo Plessow is not a legendary middle-aged producer from Detroit, as its name and tone suggests. he is not even american. He is a kid from Stuttgart, with a deep love for music especially the one coming from the motor industry city. however, a careful study of his releases, especially the so-called ‘raw cuts’, reveals his respect for almost all kinds of black music over the past 40 years: motown soul, Chicago house, Disco and his favorite Sun Ra, all under a Detroit techno prism.
