Round Nina: The Album-Tribute to the Legendary Musician

It’s been eleven years since the death of Nina Simone and ten artists, under the aegis of Universal Jazz, create an album, in which they perform some of the best-known songs of the artist. A tribute to the singer-pianist, who change the African/American music scene and more. An incredible talent, who wasn’t afraid to instantiate, through her music and almost through her own body too, the turmoil at the struggles for the Human Rights.

Born in the ‘30s at a racist America, Eunice Waymon (her real name) dreamt of being the first African/American pianist in concerts. It wasn’t until 1987, when her song “My Baby Just Cares (For me)” met huge success and she was established as an important artist to a wider audience. Since then, Simone becomes an idol and an inspiration to the generation of musicians of rap, R&B and rock music. With her epic funky repertoire, her music legacy is huge and today known artists are honoring. Some of them such as Sophie Hunger performs the dark and melancholic “I Put A Spell On You”, Gregory Porter “reviews” the fragile “Black Is The Color”, while Olivia Ruiz throws the hit “My Baby Just Cares (For me)”. At the piano there is Bojan Z, Christophe Minck on the base and Cyril Atef on the drums. This album “waves” at Nina Simone and celebrates her music.
