Zola Jesus has unveiled a video for new single “Nail”. Taken from the singer’s fifth studio album, “Taiga”, which was released almost a year ago, the track explores themes such as vulnerability and strength, bondage and freedom, death and rebirth. Same does the clip, directed by Jacqueline Castel, which shows the 26-year-old Arizona-born singer performing inside a black latex blanket.
“Performing within a custom made sensory deprivation bed built by S&M pioneers Kink Engineering, Nika (Roza Danilova, as her real name is) was sealed between sheets of opaque black latex with a high powered shop vac for each take – a physically aggressive and demanding form of restraint that requires breathing through rubber tubing constructed within the bed. Stripped of the superfluities of the flesh, her performance reveals the surreality of the dehumanized form.” says the director.
“Nail” will be released as a digital EP featuring an unreleased track called “Circles” and a Xanopticon remix of “Go” on September, 18.
