David Bowie‘s influence on fashion industry is, for sure, undeniable. And it was just the day when his death was announced, that London Collections Men was completed, having as a result many little changes on every show, including the Burberry‘s one.
Before and after Burberry’s show, two of the most popular Bowie’s songs, “Changes” and “Oh You Pretty Things” were played, when during the show, Hayett McCarthy, who was featured in the brand’s SS16 campaign, opened her hands just in front of the photographers to reveal Bowie’s name written across her palms. According to the brand’s head designer and CEO, Christopher Bailey, that was her own personal tribute to the musician, who was beaten by cancer. Moreover a Ziggy Stardust-inspired eye make up, resembling glitter tears on men models. “I was just going to put it on one male model and then suddenly they all wanted it” said Bailey. As for the general atmosphere of the show, he said “It didn’t feel right to do a show that was celebratory today, when the news is so profoundly sad”.
