Nicolas Bruno’s photography inspired by nightmares

NicolasBruno13

Atmospheric and dark images that exude tense feelings of fear, anxiety and hysteria are the representations of the terrifying moments experienced by their creator Nicolas Bruno during episodes of sleep paralysis. The young photographer has been suffering from sleep paralysis since he was 15 years old. During those episodes, the sufferer wakes up in the middle of the night without being able to move. Meanwhile, its mind is caught between sleeping and waking, causing horrifying visions and hallucinations which are even more agonizing without the inability of reaction.

In order to deal with this situation, Bruno started to write down his experiences which were then turned into an inspiration source for the scenery of his surrealistic photography. Men with masks or bowler hats, flaming objects, skeletons and hands emerging menacingly from a piano starred in his nightmares and then in his own art-works.

Now 19-year-old Bruno is studying photography at the SUNY Purchase College while he is still creating images that manipulate reality and turn it into scenes of his dark dream world.
