Teen Photographers – Girls with a camera: Annette Pehrsson

Annette Pehrsson is 21 years old currently living on the west coast of Sweden. She has studied photography for two years in upper secondary school and since then has been experimenting on her own.

How did you start taking pictures?

I got my first camera when I was seven, and ever since then I’ve loved everything about it. When I was little I mostly took photos of places around our house, on vacations and our cats.

What do you love photographing?

Mostly portraits and landscapes or indoor locations, preferably combining portraits with either one of those. But basically, anything.

In your portfolio I saw many self portraits. How do you experience this process?

I’ve always found self-portraits to be a great way of learning, and through the years I think this has made me develop a style I probably wouldn’t have found otherwise. But, I almost never see my self-portraits as pictures of myself, and the reason for often appearing in my own photographs is simply because I’m always around. That way I don’t have to put my ideas aside just because there’s no other model around at the time I feel inspired to shoot.

There is a lot of sensuality in your pictures. Is it by choice or by instinct?

I guess I always try to make my photographs look a certain way, but I think it’s mostly by an underlying instinct. I try not to think too much when I’m behind (or in front of) the camera, if I over-analyze everything it never comes out good.

What are your future plans?

Continuing with my own projects, hopefully evolve a little bit more and maybe start studying photography again on a higher level.
