Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa, working for Sanaa, one of the most recognised offices in Japan and known to many as the architects who designed New Museum in Manhattan, are the winners of the Pritzker Architecture Prize for this year. This prize, architecture’s highest honor, recognises the architect’s talent, vision, commitment and significant contributions to humanity and the built environment through the art of architecture. Throughout the fifteen years of SANAA, they have completed many projects in Japan and abroad, characterised by their directness, simplicity and economy of means.
Some of their works that stand out are The Museum of Art, in Toledo, Zollverein School of Management and Design, in Essen, Germany, Christian Dior boutique in Tokyo, O-Museum in Nagano 21st Century Museum of Contemporary art in Kanazawa.
