It’s hard to label the music by Rob Smoughton. Grovesnor, as he is known as, seems to be bridging the gap between Billy Joel and Daft Punk with a blend of soul, 80’s soft rock, electro and pop elements. Some say his music is something between the new soul experimental Jamie Lidell and Hot Chip’s dance floor pop. Having also served as a drummer for the latter, Grovesnor includes in his influences artists like Todd Rundgren and Lionel Richie while music press write about him that ‘he is like a school teacher signing like Usher’. Having already released under the open-minded Kitsune and Grecoroman records, his new album ‘Soft Return’ is out since end of April and is already included in this year’s most interesting releases.
