Dries Van Noten‘s Spring Summer 2012 print collaboration with the English photographer James Reeve has evolved into a travelling exhibition of garments and photographs, now on display at the JOYCE Galerie at the Palais Royale in Paris. Reeve has explored the world’s cities at night from a voyeuristic perspective that has resulted in the series ‘Lightscapes’, removing the physical form of the urban landscapes leaving just the artificial lighting of architecture and infrastructure. The images of the urban playing field are from the Gulf of Thailand to the Las Vegas casinos, stripping each city of any cultural or geographical identity apart from it’s collection of colourful illuminations that define a distinct silhouette after dark.
Dries Van Noten worked with the photographer to adorn t-shirts, blouses, billowing skirts and shift dresses with various images from the ‘Lightscapes’ series for his womens’ Spring Summer 2012 show. The exhibition pairs large-scale digital prints and lightboxes featuring Reeve’s sweeping vistas with bare mannequins in Dries’ sartorial interpretations of the imagery.
Until January 26th 2012 at 168-173 Galerie de Valois, 75001 Paris.
