“Remains – re-use of factory waste” by Israeli Industrial Designer Shani Langberg is furniture made from left over pieces of rubbish(!). The work is part of her final project at Holon Institute of Technology. Taken from the ”dispobud” factory, where disposable products such as non-woven fabric are manufactured – around three tons is thrown away each month and the unwanted scraps are transformed into a new item. After researching the material’ s characteristics, Shani Langberg uses a heating process, melting the raw material (non-woven fabric PP) into a mold made of aluminum using CNC technology. This makes it durable enough to create furniture that combines both industrial processing techniques, craft and, of course, imagination.
